Do you feel a cough coming on? If so, you are in luck, because Monday's forecasted combo of temp drop, pressure increase and a probable rut lockdown slowdown, will explode mature buck activity from MN and MO, to OH and KY. Also, don't be bummed from PA to NH, because your sick day rut lockdown forecast will be here Tuesday!
November 6th, 2017 will go down as one of the best days to have been in the woods all season. I hope that you have saved your favorite rut stand for this moment, because fresh stands during what could arguably be one of the top 3 best days of the year based on the forecast, will combine to yield thousands of dead mature bucks. It's time to hit your favorite cruising funnels rut stands during the morning and mid-day hours, and then a highly defined Afternoon Food Source sit, for later in the day.
*Here is the formula that you can use, to create your own highly accurate whitetail forecast, for your own location: 2017 Sturgis Rut Formula.
As an employer myself I am not so sure that calling in sick is the right approach, however as an employer in the whitetail industry, I can say I would completely understand! The point is that when you see this combination of factors, you just can't miss them:
1. 14-18 degree morning temp drops
*Remember, today's forecasted low is tomorrow morning's temperature, not today's morning temperature!
2. Major barometric temperature increases
3. Clearing weather patterns
4. The slowdown of the annual rut lockdown phase
The lockdown only last for a handful of days and by the 6th or 7th of November, the woods will EXPLODE with rut activity! It's the rut, right? so every day is great, right? Wrong! Not every day is created equal, not even during the peak rut. Sure, a great buck can be shot on any day of the season and in any weather pattern, but I have experienced that there are some days that are 10 times better than other days. For example today, November 5th features moderate temperatures, low pressure, clouds and even thunderstorms in some areas. When you calculate this day out using the formula provided in the above link, it calculates out to a 1 out of 10. However, depending on where you live, tomorrow (and then Tuesday towards the East) figures out to be a solid 9 or 10!
*This 2013 WI Archerystory was made possible due to the same conditions! You can imagine how pumped I am to hunt a couple of my favorite rut stands tomorrow, that haven't been pressured for weeks.
Conclusion
"You can't shoot them sitting on the couch"has got to be one of the poorest advice related hunting phrases ever concocted by hunters. Instead, you CAN kill more bucks by sitting on the couch, by saving your favorite stands for a day like November 6th. As long as you have an understanding boss, I suggest that for this critical rut lockdown phase alert, you feel a little couch coming on. November 6th promises to be one of the best days to sit in the woods all season - most likely in the top 3 to 5 days all Fall, and I can't wait to hear about your success!
