We Help People Design and Hunt Whitetail Parcels

Designing the Perfect Plan

The WHS Team specializes in designing the hunt, herd and habitat on your land. When we are finished, we can even help you build your dream whitetail parcel. The perfect habitat or hunting improvement isn't actually perfect, unless it fits whithin a balanced and cohesive plan based on your goals, resources, neighbors, herd and habitat conditions. Designing a personal plan that naturally fits each piece of the puzzle together, is what our clients tell us we do best.

Experienced Balance Assessment

Every parcel has a complex set of pieces to accurately assess the balance for and we have the experience to help you do so. It is vital to consider the balance of where, how, when, if and why of bedding areas, food sources, timber management, water, cover, stand locations, lines of movement, patterns of use, paralleling habitat features and ACCESS. We solve the complexity of your land design, all while considering the most proven high level hunting tactics.

Scouting Your Land

During your visit, your land will be extensively scouted to determine where bucks and does should travel, bed and feed based on the both the current and potential future habitat conditions. At the end of the visit an electronic design will be created before a WHS team member leaves your land, which is critical for your success. Your one of a kind design will be based on the experience of creating nearly 600 WHS parcels in 21 states since 2005.

Putting the pieces of the puzzle together for a balanced hunting and habitat design is what my clients tell me I do best.

A Personal Service

Since 2005 many of Jeff's clients have not only been great patrons, but are now personal friends. Your design will not only be specific to your parcel alone, but the WHS team will do its best to tailor your visit and plan to your own individually unique personality and needs. No two parcels are alike and no two clients are alike. Due to the extreme variety of clients, whitetail habitat and hunting conditions, it is vital that each of the components of your hunting and habitat design are accurately applied to your land, and the WHS team has the experience to do so. This is not a "cookie cutter" service.

Features Over Beauty

We take the hunting pressure, out of the hunt. The trick to creating the perfect plan does not lie in the perfection of the ingredients. Instead, the features of cover, water, food and travel need to be accurately appllied to your parcel, in a logical pattern relative to your parcel's individual needs. Each improvement needs to work within a coohesive unit to define the daytime movement of the herd. The more the deer movement is defined, the easier it becomes for you to successfully hunt and manage the herd of your dreams. Although we strive for you to experience pretty improvements, the recommended features of your design will in no way be random.

My Visit

Depending on the size of your parcel, I will visit with you and the hunters that use your parcel for an entire day or more. We’ll scout your parcel, put the pieces together, and then I will have a design for you before I leave at the end of the visit. Discussing your complete habitat design in person at the end of the day is not only a unique service that I provide to you, but it is a service that is critical to your success.

Deer bedding areas, staging areas, food plots, watering holes, hunting stand setups, trail cameras and more.

A Note

Due to the varieties of habitat type and terrain, a parcel of 80-200 acres or more of forest will often require an additional day. Parcels within all of MI, WI, OH, and PA require the basic daily fee, as do portions of northern, IN, IL, northeastern IA, eastern MN, and southwest NY. A WHS team member can fly to you if needed, for which a basic 3-day reduced fee is required, along with airfare.

What Others Are Saying

I had a fantastic experience working with Kevan this past winter. I am very new to hunting and have learned so much valuable information on herd development through land improvements. Based upon the site visit , Kevan really took the time to understand where we were at in our hunting journey and from there built our stand and food plot locations. We have had a successful 1st year no till food plot experience using buckwheat! ( I have a picture attached of the buckwheat plot). I have also taken the hunting hills web class to better impact my hunting skills in North Central PA. Jeff is a great educator. I am now prepared to hunt from my stand locations based upon winds/thermals in the hill country of PA. I simply can not that WHS enough for their help. We are excited to apply our new found education to hunting this fall.
Thank you again!

My son and I had Jeff come out in early August 2022. We worked on the plan he provided us and finished it up the second week of September. We improved some bedding areas, combined 2 smaller food plots into one large plot, and created a deer trail all the way around the property to tie everything together. We hung several cameras on this trail; each over a mock scrape. We instantly noticed several deer using this trail. By thickening up the center of the property, a couple of nice bucks started to use our place as their new home. This provided me with the opportunity to take this nice 10 point the second week of November. He was a local buck on our 40 acres, and we had several daytime pictures of him. We had been working on our property for about five years and thought we were on the right track. However, by having Jeff come out to help us improve our habitat plan, we realized we needed to make some changes. Now we are very confident that we have a great deer hunting property now. Happy to share that Kevan came out in spring of 22 and designed an amazing layout
I have 2 boys 5/7 and we use the ponds for fishing and they love riding the trails on all our toys!
We see a handful of the same bucks from June-Sept but when prime season kicks in, it is hot and steady action
It was not uncommon to see 6-8 different bucks a sit and always multiple does
Unfortunately I did not harvest one that I am looking for yet, but 2 of my good friend both got quality mature bucks last year (tine to start charging!lol)
On top of that the turkeys were relating more to some of the cuttings close to timber and alfalfa fields and that resulted in many mornings with multiple Tom’s coming in My 7 year old took his first and it was an awesome experience!

We purchased our farm 4 years ago in the Wayne National Forrest in Southern Ohio. Year after year, it seemed there were 2 deer that would live on our farm year-round. Following these deer and finding multiple years of sheds we have spent each year attempting to harvest these 2 particular deer as a special memory for the beginning of our farm. Over the years these deer seemed to elude us in every way. Only 1 time in 3 years did we see one of these deer in person during daylight. After Jeff’s visit in September 2022, we only had a couple weeks to implement a small portion of the plan Jeff laid out for us. Once deer season started we not only had more day light photos of a dozen mature bucks but we were able to pattern the 2 that had eluded us for years. I was able to take down this 6.5 year old 164” Southern Ohio deer and my father was able to take down his 8.5 year old deer only 3 weeks later. We are very grateful for Jeff’s efforts, and we are extremely excited to see what changes the rest of his plan brings to our farm in the future!

after 34 years of hunting this land and only 2 years after a 1/4 acre food plot at the very bottom of the hill next to the creek and turning the powerlines into switch grass and a 1/2 acre of a 4 clover mix he shot his first big buck here and I'm seeing alot. Thanks you so much. That deer never would have been harvested without your help. And the last one I seen is much much larger than that
